CV
Professor Meike Jipp became the new Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on 1 August 2023. The division is characterised by the research and development of new technologies and the integration of these technologies into novel applications. This work allows societal needs to be met and facilitates the development of competitive products. Meike Jipp studied psychology and minored in computer science at the University of Mannheim and Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Jipp began her career at DLR in 2010, following the completion of her doctorate and post-doctoral work, which was also undertaken at the University of Mannheim.
As project manager and research associate at the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance, she focused on improving human-technology interaction in the field of air traffic control. At the beginning of 2014, Meike Jipp took over as head of the 'Driver Cognition and Modelling' group at the DLR Institute of Transportation Systems. Between 2015 and 2020, she led the 'Human Factors' department at the same Institute, and between 2017 and 2019, she also temporarily led the 'Testing' department. Also in 2017, Jipp became a professor at the Faculty of Life Sciences at Technische Universität Braunschweig. At the beginning of 2021, she assumed the leadership of the DLR Institute of Transport Research as well as a special professorship (German academic position – Sonderprofessur) of 'Transport Demand and Impacts' at Technische Universität Berlin.
In her research, Meike Jipp focuses on the analysis, evaluation and optimisation of transport systems. Why do people travel the way they do? How does mobility behaviour change when transport spaces, offers or means are designed differently? How do people interact with complex systems? How should complex systems be designed in order to achieve specific goals? Interdisciplinarity has always been at the core of her work.
Jipp is also co-head of the Expert Advisory Board on 'Climate Protection in Mobility' of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and spokesperson of the 'Transport, Mobility and Logistics' Cluster in Berlin-Brandenburg. She is also a full member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and the Braunschweig Scientific Society (BWG).
